How to select the right freezer
• One of the first things to do is to measure the space that you have for a fridge freezer because they come in a number of different styles and sizes. These days, the American side by side fridge is very popular but this is not going to be the best choice for those with small kitchens. • A lot of people will want to have an integrated fridge freezer in their kitchen and these look great because they blend in with the kitchen cabinets but in general, they do not offer as many features or functions as a freestanding fridge freezer.• While considering the space that you have in your kitchen for your fridge freezer, it would also be a good idea to think about how you are going to get the appliance into the house. Some of these fridge freezers are so wide that they will only fit through the door opening if the door is taken off.
This can be a lot of hassle so consider this before making your choice.• Think about what kind of foods you buy normally before you choose your fridge freezer. If you tend to buy a lot of frozen foods then you will need to make sure that you have enough freezer space. However if you tend to cook from scratch and use quite a bit of fresh produce then you are going to want more space in the refrigerator. •
Have a good look around for the best prices before you buy. There is a lot of price variation from one retailer to the next even for the exact same model so it would be wise to compare prices once you have chosen the type of fridge freezer that you want. A good place to start is Hughes Electrical Stores as you can visit the website to see what they have while also checking the prices.• Consider the features that you want. There are many functions these days that will make life easier such as water and ice dispensers, transparent drawers, and fast freeze functions.
Redefine Your Bedroom with a Blanket Box
More than just a piece of simple elegant and functional furniture, the blanket box can be thought of as the essential complement to the soul of your bedroom, the bed. Choosing a blanket box, that beautifully fills the gap at the base of your bed, really can change the atmosphere of your bedroom. You can now easily, and pleasurably, refresh your bedding when it becomes jaded and tired, bringing a crisp comfort to your evenings, and an extra depth to your sleep.
The blanket box is designed to hold bed linen well- it's big enough to avoid the bedding from being over-creased by folding, and airy enough to keep it fresh. The origin of the blanket box can be traced back to a time when bedding was one of the most expensive and luxurious of items in any household. Fine white linen was a dear luxury, and so keeping it clean and sweetly-scented was an important part of the house-keeper's duties. A blanket box served that purpose admirably well, and also helped to keep such expensive items safe- hence the locks found on many an antique blanket box.
And an antique blanket box is what many home-owners today would dearly love to have ensconced in their bedroom. Having a historied, well-worn and time-caressed family heirloom, sitting next to your bed, adds a unique charm to your sleeping room. If you are aiming high, and want an antique blanket box to be the centre-point of your bedroom, you are certain to find what you want amongst the historical range of tastes in wood and colours. But only after much searching and browsing of antique shops- something you may not find too onerous!
However, if your price bracket is a little lower than the antique then there are plenty of stunning reproductions available on the market. Ranging from the simple rustic farmhouse style, to the exotic cut of a Mexican blanket box, and onto the stylish elegance of French bed furniture, there is bound to be something that will work a treat in your bedroom. On the value-side, online ordering of flat-packed blanket box furniture is a great option. Many interesting and nicely finished pieces can be delivered to your home this way. Assembly is easy, the look is still great, and the function as well served- all for a fraction of the price you would pay for a good reproduction piece.
So if you want to redefine the look, the feel and even the ambience of that most personal of rooms, your bedroom, a well chosen blanket box can be a great buy. Whatever the bedroom, whatever the price, there is bound to be a bed chest made for you and your room.
Considerations When Using Amtico Flooring with Underfloor Heating
One increasingly popular means of keeping your house warm is underfloor heating. This approach to meeting a home's heating requirements is much more efficient at transferring the energy around your living space, when compared to conventional central heating systems. Underfloor heating also creates a completely different warmth profile- rooms simply glow gently, without dead zones of chill or excessive heat piling to the ceiling. Such a system also makes the need for fitted carpets less; floors are naturally warm, and so the gorgeous bare floor laminate solutions, as offered by Amtico flooring, are an ideal complement.
But if you are planning to install your Amtico flooring over an existing underfloor heating system, there are a few things that you need to bear in mind. Firstly, the accepted forms of underfloor heating are those that use hot water or electrical heating elements embedded directly into the underfloor. The laminate flooring can't be a structural support over externally mounted heating systems.
Next, you must ensure you have fully read, and follow, all the details of the flooring installation instructions. Laminate flooring should also be installed as a floating floor, not a glued one, as the underfloor heating can activate glue vapours and loosen the bond. An underlay of a reasonable thickness is recommended- it should have a plastic film on one side. If not, a separate 6mm poly sheet should be laid down first, and care should be taken that any joints for multiple sheets are overlapped.
You must also check the heat resistance value of the flooring to be installed. A generally accepted maximum for the entire floor covering is in the region of 0.85 hour-sq. feet-F/BTU. Some flooring solutions from Amtico may exceed this value, especially if they involve boarding as a component. Because underfloor heating exerts a greater thermal stress on the laminate flooring, causing it to expand and contract to a greater extent, you should allow for a larger expansion gap, between ¼ and ½ inch (6-12mm).
Finally, during installation, the initial heating from the floor should be restricted- generally it is best to keep it at less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the system at this lower temperature for a day, and then gradually increase, in 5 F increments, each day, until you reach your desired floor temperature. Manufacturers recommend that the temperature should not exceed 82 F, as this may cause damage to your laminate boards.
So as you can see, the use of underfloor heating and Amtico flooring requires a little careful consideration during installation, and some common sense in operation. But when you see, and feel, the combined effect of the two, working in tandem you'll appreciate paying attention to those details. Together they create a wonderfully warm ambience, uncluttered by radiators, and just exuding a gorgeous and timeless, but modern, appeal.
